Secure Sockets Layer

Secure Sockets Layer
   Abbreviated SSL. An interface originally developed by Netscape that provides encrypted data transfer between client and server applications over the Internet. SSL works at the network level and so can be used by any SSL-compliant application. Applications that use SSL use RSA public key encryption and digital signatures to establish the identity of the two parties in the transaction.
